Churchill Flute Band

Band Parades July 2010

Towards the end of July the band travelled to 2 band parades. The first was held on Wednesday 28th July, in Garvagh. Ranken Memorial Flute Band were the hosts. Not usually holding an annual parade this year Ranken Memorial decided to have a special Anniversary parade. We were happy to go along to support them in their 100th year. Many congratulations must go to them for achieving such a milestone. The parade itself was for us one of the best in terms of how we sounded on the night. Good crowds lined the main street and it was well attended by other bands.

On Saturday 31st July the band were on the move again. To Ballymoney for Dunloy Accordian's annual festival and parade. Over the years we have made many friends within Dunloy and it was a pleasure to perform both during their Cultural Festival in the afternoon and later during the parade.

Our set in the afternoon was ropey enough if we are honest. Even a broken down flute added to the problems! That said the audience seemed to enjoy the set which included; Trafalgar, Spanish Eyes, Swinging Safari, Scipio, Drum Collasieum (Drum Static), Galanthia, The Gael, Highland Cathedral, and Killaloe & The Regimental.

The parade has to be one of the best in the country and is always an enjoyable experience for the band. The Drum Major even surrendered his mace to a white rabbit who successfully lead the band down Main Street. And no he was not hylucinating! It is always a family occassion with a friendly atmosphere around the town. Many Thanks to Dunloy Accordian Band once again for the pleasure of being one of the 84 bands on parade on the night.
