On Saturday 29th August the band had the pleasure of leading Royal Black Preceptory 113 on the usual ‘Black Saturday’ parade. The parade left the ABOD Memorial Hall at 9.15am to make our way to May Street to get the buses to the main demonstration in Castlerock, the first time it has been there since 1993.
The main parade itself started at midday with the band in the middle of the parade. The parade route itself was surprisingly longer than what most expected, but this did not deter the band who played very well on the day. After a religious service in the field the parade made its way around the streets of Castlerock again to the departing buses. Once reaching Londonderry again, the band made its way ‘home’ to the ABOD Memorial Hall and concluded the day with the playing of the National Anthem.
Our usual Drum Major, Trevor was unfortunately away for this parade, but his predecessor Robin stood in for him for the day’s proceedings. The Band would like to thank Robin for doing so and for leading the band with great pride and dignity.
