Churchill Flute Band

Remembrance

On Saturday 8th November 2008 the band, once again, had the honour of leading the Apprentice Boys on their Remembrance parade and service in Northern Ireland's Capital City. The parade set off from Ballynefeigh and made its way through Belfast City Centre, reaching the Cenotaph a short time before 11am. At this point a short, sombre remembrance service was conducted, including the band playing Abide With Me, the laying of a wreath by the Apprentice Boys and a two minutes silence.

The parade then left City Hall and proceeded to the Shankill Road, pausing at the garden of remembrance to lay a wreath. Moving off again we made our way to West Belfast Orange Hall where following the playing of the National Anthem the parade was dismissed. It is only for this parade that the band currently can be seen on the streets of Belfast. It gives us a great sense of pride in leading this parade each year, in remembrance of all those who have paid the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
